Just take a look at this college newpaper site, they have truly turned Wordpress from just a blogging tool to a fully blown CMS.
If the theme on the site looks familiar than you right, it’s a free 4 column theme by WPdesigner, however the person in charge of designing/maintaining the site has transformed it so that it now looks like a newspaper/magazine kind of site.
Not bad, day by day i’m seeing some impressive Wordpress implementations.

That is an impressive overhaul of that theme. Amazing.
I did a bit of changes on that theme too. They are at http://www.mdcrei.com. I can’t seem to get the link colors at the bottom to change without changing them through out the entire scheme though, so I sort of feel bad that WP isn’t getting his full credit as of now on that site.

Collegian did a wonderful job for the layout, especially their home page with 5 columns which is tricky and would look bad if it wasn’t done nicely.

There are other blogging platforms that are good as well, but I guess wordpress has really taken off. I use Serendipity on a couple of sites and love it.

I love the layout and I am trying to design a similar theme myself using the nytimes.com as inspiration for a client.I have only one small, tiny, miniscule criticism: there are 660 errors according to a html validator.
I think it has mostly to do with adding all that javascript beyond the header tag and all those urls with unescaped ampersands.Ok I will take my wet blanket and go away now!
But most importantly it is a very put together and professional looking site. Good job!

Wordpress is a far more powerful solution. You can use it as more than a news paper so it is not a wonder if it is being used as a news paper.

Great article! So few people really get the formula for how to make money from blogging and go dashing about following first one system then the other, when all that is needed is goal setting, follow the plan to its conclusion, consistency and massive action.

Using Wordpress as a CMS is like using a plank of wood to waterski. It can be done with a lot of skill and pain, but there are lot better tools. Consider Joomla or Drupal before Wordpress.
