Blogger Interview : James Yeang of friedbeef.com

James Yeang of friedbeef.com was recently interviewed by me, he’s a tech enthusiast based in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and his blog friedbeef has some really good post like Google + Firefox = Free Music Downloads, How to Attach and Save Files Faster and 10 Things to Consider When Choosing a Site Meter.

1.What is your blog about?

It’s about readers learning something new in technology in every post. It may be a useful tip, an interesting piece of freeware, or some productivity tips. Everyday problems solved with simple technology - that’s the big picture I guess.

2.Why did you choose Wordpress?

I moved from blogger in the middle of last year because the platform just wasn’t customizable enough. Wordpress has a healthy community of users who create plugins and beautiful themes, and offer up good support all for free, so it was an easy choice.

3.Among the tons of themes out there, why did you choose the Glued Ideas theme?

At the time, it was very unique, and it was very customizable to boot. I browse around for themes once in a while, but have not found something which suits my fancy as of yet.

4.Name 5 WP plugins that you can’t live without.

Akismet for sure. I’d be overwhelmed by spam if it wasn’t for this one.

Widgets - because it makes my sidebar so very customizable, so easily

Viper’s video tags - to insert videos into posts easily

Ultimate tag warrior - because it’s the most powerful tagging plugin out there

Related posts - because it definitely gives me more pageviews without extra effort.

5.Name 5 Wordpress powered blogs that you regularly read.

I’m not sure which blogs are Wordpress powered - but I can try to guess:

Liewcf.com - Malaysian tech blogger

TechCrunch.com - latest web 2.0 news

presentationzen.com - fantastic presentation tips

copyblogger.com - Love the blogging tips from this site

micropersuasion.com - interesting tech news

6.Have you contributed or plan to contribute anything to the WP
community? (themes,plugin,etc)

Aside from some support, not yet because I lack the technical skills to code up any useful plugins or themes as of yet.

**Interviews:

Basically my selection of bloggers to interview mainly boils down to what powers their blog, if they are using Wordpress than odds are they will be interviewed one day or another, I’m always on the lookout for bloggers to interview so if your a Wordpress user please join my community and chances are you might be next on the interview list.
