Blogger Interview : Small Potato of Wpdesigner.com

In today’s interview with a blogger I had the opportunity to interview Small Potato as he call himself of Wpdesigner.com.

Small Potato has design some really beautiful themes for the Wordpress community and to interview him was an honour.

Here goes:

1.Small Potato…what’s the story behind the name?

It stems from old Chinese triad movies. Usually, a small potato or scoundrel is a low-ranking gangster.

2.When did you discover Wordpress and were you using another blog
platform before WP?

Back in late 2005, I played with Nucleus, Mambo, and Drupal. No other CMS nor blog platform gave me the flexibility that WordPress continued to provide.

3.You recently went on a Wordpress Theme frenzy, releasing many many themes for the community, why?

About the 32 consecutive days of WordPress themes challenge, I just wanted to know if I could do it. Given the time frame I had to produce each theme, I’m not proud of all 32. And according to one of my readers, I make CRAPPY themes. Doh!

4.In all of the themes that you have created, which is your personal top 3 fav?

Oldschool, Braintied, and Poker.

5.In your ‘about’ page you said that you were taking a break from
accepting design jobs..when will you be back?

Never. For a while, I hopped in and out of freelance work. Finally, I’ve decided to stop, forgot to edit the About Page. As much as I like to help people with their projects, I’m not organized, not like a professional would be.

6.Name a couple of plugins that you can’t live without.

Akismet by Matt takes care of spam. Preview Theme by Ryan allows my readers to preview my themes. Last is bbPress; it isn’t a plugin, but very useful for answering support questions.

I HATE doing theme support through email.

7.Name a few blogs that you visit and read and are powered by WP.

Aojon and Wpdesigner.

8.Is there a possibility that you’ll repeat or do something similar to
you ‘themes’ release frenzy?

Not likely, my focus right now is the WordPress theme tutorial series. After that, I plan to to expand Wpdesigner beyond just free themes and tutorials. Although, when I start to create WP themes again, you can expect them weekly.

9.You decided to give tutorials about creating a Wordpress theme and
have now compiled an impressive series, what was the reason behind
this?

The one thing that I learned from the 32-theme challenge is that there’s a lack of WordPress designers. My intention is to create more WordPress designers, not just more WordPress themes.

**Interviews:

Basically my selection of bloggers to interview mainly boils down to what powers their blog, if they are using Wordpress than odds are they will be interviewed one day or another, I’m always on the lookout for bloggers to interview so if your a Wordpress user please join my community and chances are you might be next on the interview list.
