Ikarus is my dream of a Wordpress Theme come to life. I’ve spent 3 months developing it and it’s absolutely perfect, with over 2,000+ user selectable variations and options all managed from the admin area. Four (4) homepage layouts (magazine, list, blog and magazine lis), over 10 colors that you can mix and match, left or right layout and tons more.
It’s the most complex programmed theme that will most likely ever be created. It’s my proudest piece of work and I’m glad to give it away free of charge. I’ve included some links in the footer that points back to my personal websites. If you’d like them removed please paypal $30 to webdesign@5shades.com.
I’ve created an exlusive demo page just for Ikarus so that you can witness the full potential of it’s power and flexibility. I’ve also made it terribly easy to customize and fit your needs.
Learn more about this theme from the options in the main menu on the demo page.

Does this theme supports wp2.6??… Well this is exceptional theme… wonderful…
July 16th, 2008 at 9:41 am
This looks pretty awesome. Going to play around with it – will let you know where/how I end up using it if I do.
July 16th, 2008 at 10:02 am
My jaw dropped when I tried the demo version! OMG! This is wickedly perfect! I just have a question, if I use it, can I change the photos on the header?
July 16th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Great theme. However, I like the LightBreaker theme a little bit better because of its money making capabilities, especially with the Adsense sub-bar. The changes I’d like to see to this theme are:
-to have that Adsense sub-bar like in LightBreaker
-replace the bookmarking icons with the simple “ShareThis” plugin (just like what you guys have)
-have a categories widget featured in a different color from the rest of the widgets instead of having the “Pages” widget for that
-have a 2×4 set-up instead of the 3×2 set-up for the 125×125 banner ads
-have the ability to add 6 widgets in the footer just like what you guys have
-have a calendar picture for the date for every post instead of having it in normal text
-have rss and e-mail subscription opt-ins showing how many subscribers
-and maybe make the blog post size a little bigger in terms of width, it just seems like the words are too cramped together with the smaller size
Also, the theme seems to not be working properly in Opera, the video module is on top of the header instead of below it
This theme is very nice, but I think some of the fixes and changes I mentioned above would make it better.

Excellent, love it! Great work, thanks
July 17th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Awesome. Simply awesome.
July 17th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
I’d like to see option in blog mode to move the video/etc unit to the top above other widgets.
Also config to turn off video for sites that don’t have it, so this unit looks like one in LightBreaker
July 18th, 2008 at 2:51 am
@james… you can turn off the video images in the options portion. and tabs can be replaced with anything. its a genius theme
July 18th, 2008 at 3:58 am
truely awsome template, going to be trying it out on my site. you have major tallant. keep it up.
July 18th, 2008 at 4:51 am
Vikki Yes you can change the photos
July 18th, 2008 at 4:55 am
RB! Some of the features that you mentioned are great but they can just be added on. It does have RSS (feedburner and and feedcoun). Both sidebars are wigitized so you can featured the category section in the inner colored widget

I really appreciat all the compliment guys. I’ll be tweking the team a bit and adding some other little things. I just wanted to get it out there as I’ve been working on it for way too long. LoL.
Next one will have similar functions but in a white design for cleaness! Look for it. I think I’ll call it GUMBO because of it’s flexibility.
July 18th, 2008 at 5:05 am
hanjra I’ve testes it on the lastest 2 version of WP and it works flawlessly.

I am new to blogging but I like the information you are sharing here. It seems to me though that 2000 options is going to be very confusing. I’m actually afraid to even try it! Anyway, I wish you great success. If you have time, check out my blog at http://www.serenitebiz.com

good theme
July 21st, 2008 at 8:21 am
I’m playing around with the theme, considering using it for my actual site. However, I’m finding a couple issues. I’m wondering if I’m missing some settings somewhere.
1> The banners won’t work with a swf file, apparently. Is there a reason why they are file type limited? Seems that should be up to the page author to decide.
2> The text to see the number of comments on a post is black on grey. Anywhere to change this setting? I assume it’s somewhere in the CSS files.
3> Any chance I’m missing some settings on the comments themselves? I love the Avatars, but since they are posted at the bottom of a comment and there is no real division between comments, it’s hard to tell who’s avatar belongs to who. I’d really like to make use of one of those thought bubble div tags in the typography section on the demo site.
4> There are a lot of sections that rely on images being a certain size. For instance the header images, the ad block, etc. Any chance we could see a setting to force images shown in those sections to a specific size? That way I wouldn’t always have to lower the size of an image in order for it to work in multiple locations.
5> Is there a guide to options and settings? I’ve had to find just about everything by searching.
Great Template. I’m going to have to figure out a few things before I can use it. But it’s looking promising.

I am new to blogging so I created a subdomain with the latest WP installed to test a few themes I like. I added yours too and now I have no access to the admin area, I cannot change it, I cannot remove it, I cannot experience with other themes.
Please tell me what I am doing wrong,

Thanks for giving away this masterpiece for free!

I Love this theme, especially the configurability of it. I have an issue though, that I hope you can help me solve.
I have more “pages” than can fit on one line, therefore the tow lines merge into the advertising space and the site name.
What can I do to increase the space between the site name and the banner so that it can accommodate 2 rows of pages, possibly 3?
Thanks,
Mel

I read a comment about not being able to put SWF’s 468×60 Banners at the header of the page.
To get around this (cheap fix) modify header.php
Find where it says BEGIN TOP BANNER, go inside the DIV tag, and replace its contents with this:
This echo’s JUST the destination URL data entered in the admin panel for the header banner.
This way you can paste your entire embed/object codes (but remember to cancel out quotes with \’s) and use flash, or images.
The same goes for the footer banner, but it resides in footer.php.

Downloaded your Ikarus theme for a website and I am trying to link to a specific category by a hard coded navigation. I am linking to a category ID, but it seems that when I do so it the theme pulls in all posts from all categories.
I took a look at the index.php file
And I found that this if statement was evaluating to the blog include no matter what happens. But I want it to pick up a specific category id just like the default Kubrick theme does.
What do I need to edit in the theme to make that happen? I don’t see a layout file that duplicates that display function, so maybe I need to create a file in there first? I don’t see an option for this under the ‘design’ menu.
Thanks. (If I am missing a forum for your themes, please turn my attention to that).

Hi,
So I downloaded your Ikarus White version a few weeks back. I’m kind of new to blogging so I was wondering if you could help me get it working properly, as I’m having issues w/ the picture part, among other things. It’s a GREAT theme by the way!!

P.S
I don’t have a big budget, but I’m willing to pay someone, if not the theme creator, who can help me figure out how to get it working on my site… please shoot me an email if you can help, thanks again!!

This really needs to be fixed for 2.7, there’s a lot of bugs with the new release. Other than that it’s a pretty good theme, but I would NOT call it the greatest. It’s very very good for a free theme.

For a novice I am missing a lot. I installed it, and it is just about exactly what I want. I can customize the header image, put video in etc. However I do not see where it is that I sign in. On one demo there is a modular area for meta including logging in, however I do not see that on my site when I have this theme on.
I love the theme, I can’t believe I wouldn’t be able to use it because of something as silly as that. Is there something really stupid I’m missing.
Thanks you. I’d really appreciate a reply. I’d even buy a template if it had want I wanted, but I’ve yet to see that. My own graphics are important to use and change, in particular the header.
January 31st, 2009 at 1:13 am
Love the theme so much that I reverted from 2.7 to 2.6 to get it working properly but STILL can’t get the adsense ads in the ads boxes. Is there a FAQ or manual on this thing? I want to use all of its terrific functions. Is anyone else getting a Parse Syntax error on the comments?

Love the theme! But for some reason, on subsequent pages the standard sidebar doesn’t appear. And there are no other wordpress widgets in place. Anyone know what could be the problem?

This is a great theme, but it’s too bad that there is zero support. Hopefully people will post their questions to the WordPress support forum: http://wordpress.org/support/forum/5 so that there is a central area to collect and answer Ikarus questions. Also noticed that the site http://www.wpthemespress.com that had some limited Q&A is no longer functioning either
