If your running WordPress 2.2 and below than you would have to concern yourself with just the category pages when it comes to duplicate content but with version 2.3 onwards you would also have to consider the Tag’s pages, which basically means your (same) content appears on your homepage, it’s own category (or categories) page(s) ,tag’s pages and even in the archives.
This is what is called “Duplicate Content” , and it’s not a good thing from an SEO point of view.
However Dane Morgan has written a beautiful article entitled How To Create Unique Content On Every WordPress Tag And Category Page, it’s a definite must read for those who are concerned about SEO, in fact even if your not to bothered you should still read it.
It’s and “How To” type of article where he teaches you a little about duplicate content and gives you a remedy for it, it’s not a ‘quicky’ fix type of thing so if your not interested in dabbling with your theme and making some tweaks than this article is NOT for you, however if your willing to take some time to learn and tweak than it’s a good read indeed.

actually - that’s way too much work. There’s a better solution that’s Wordpress approved and already in the Codex. Just create a tag template for tag pages, and a category template for category pages.
It’s easier to do, quicker, you don’t have to do it each time you post, and you can change the layout of any page you want using templates, or even have specific ads per tag / category.
