Who Is Hosting Your WordPress Blog?

web hosting If you are running or plan on running a WordPress powered blog on your own, the most important ingredient to consider is selecting a reputable Web Host, selecting a Web Host just because of their attractive price offer might prove to be a nightmare, last year i wrote on How To Choose a Good Web Hosting Service and you should read that if your searching for a good host.As for me this blog is hosted on Hosting Zoom, they have been excellent, I especially have good things to say about their support department, they always answer my question within 24 hours.

I have also noticed a trend lately of people complaining about their host, that got me thinking of starting a page on this blog that promotes quality WordPress hosting companies (it’s also a good way to make some income),so my question to you is who is your web host?.

Why did you choose your current host?, what are your reviews about them and would you recomend them to other bloggers out there? and for good measure if your have hosting nightmare stories please do share so that we can inform fellow WordPress users about them.

If you comment below with a review about your host i might place it on my hosting page with an excerpt of your comment plus a link back to your blog.

Here’s an example for you.

My blogs are hosted with SapiensBryan. He is a reseller and is known in the Malaysian blogging circle. Why him? Because Lilian Chan hosts some of her sites with his. If she is satisfied with SapiensBryan, I should be too because her requirements for her sites are far greater than mine.

So far so good. He’s available just by an email ;)

I thought this was a loaded question and would explode with comment. ;-)
I started using 1 and 1 when they offered free hosting for three years. If you want to get down to the root level and muck around they are not for you. No Fantastico here, although they have tons of tools that I have never used.

Blogosis (my blog) is run on and recommends Dreamhost for all your hosting needs. Sign up using the promo code “OSIS” and get up to 50 dollars off any hosting program. They’re program is truly unique, as you start off with a huge 500 gigabytes of disk storage which increases 2 gbs everyweek you stay with them! That means every year you host with them, your storage increases by 108 gigs! If that isn’t enough, you start off with 5 terabytes of monthly bandwidth which increases by an amazing 40 gbs a week! I have had no server troubles, and all my websites load quickly. Customer service is a breeze. The one time I needed it, I glided through and my website was back online in less than an hour. 1-click installation makes Dreamhost perfect for your Wordpress needs.

That’s my review/sales pitch on my blog. But Dreamhost really is great. I host two domains with them and everything has run extremely smooth. Loads pretty quick, too, considering I am on the other side of the world from the server.

I started out with netfirms and they where total crap. I use a ping service to notify me if my site went down and it was a weekly occurrence for it to be down for a few hours. When trying to get tech support when the site went down it was a nightmare. Another big factor was their lack of updating software, in November I was trying to get a version of wordpress above 2.1 and they said it was not possible. After many headaches and my sites going down on a weekly basis I went on a search for someone better.

When I started looking for a new webhost the name hostgator came up a lot. Many people reviewed highly of them and they are heavily supported with the bans software. I wanted to setup a bans store so it seemed like the best choice. I love the features they offer and their tech support is awesome. I had to contact them on a wordpress installation that failed. They took care of the problem and the phone call and getting it resolved had to be under 10 minutes. I defiantly recommend hostgator if your looking for a good web host.

Now there are two host that i would love to mention here. The first one is a nono for all bloggers, not only WordPress bloggers. The name is Globat and for those of you who have come in closer contact with them, my deepest condulations. These guys are known to upgrade their user accounts automatically if a user doesn’t expressly say he doesn’t want the upgrade.
Number two is BlueHost, one of the four big guys. I’ve been with them ever since Lou Rio p…d me off and i left Globat. I meanwhile host more than 20 websites on their servers, have several accounts there and run several WordPress blogs. Since they all make money in one way or the other, they can’t afford downtime. And they don’t have any, not to speak off at least. The package has Fantastico included what means fully automated, quick and easy installation of WordPress. You’re done in under 5 minutes.
If you want a more detailed version of Globat, contact me. I have a lot to say about those guys.

I’ve been with (mt)mediaTemple for quite a while now, who’s front page pricing of $8 per month for a crazy 1TB of bandwidth and 20GB of storage is incredibly tempting especially when you look back just 2 years ago and compare what you were paying and getting then with now. I started with a (ss) SharedServer and migrated to a (gs) GridServer for free. Of course, the announced specs should only play a tiny part in your decision making process but fortunately, I’ve been more than happy with (mt).
    Happy as a peacock
I like (mt) for its involvement in this community, but not enough to make me switch hosts. I switched for the service. PHP, MySQL. (mt) has the latest stable releases and will set them up for you or let you do it yourself.

I recommend Media Temple without reservation. Their new control panel gives you tremendous power over your domain. Create subdomains, mail accounts, and much more. If you prefer, they will do everything for you . There is more to it then just really fast servers!

@pablopabla – Yes, i know Bryan for sometime now, glad your hosting with him.

@skarld,Justin Dupre, bud,MakeHowTo & Tom – Thanks for your input guys, i appreciate it much.

Looks like popular names are poping out – HostGator, DreamHost and mediaTemple.

As for me i have experience with numerous companies:

    Spry.com
    HostingZoom
    Brius
    ResellerZoom
    BlueHost
    Hive.com.my
    easynet-interactive.com
    HostGator

All have their pros and cons, but one thing that i have noticed is that HoztingZoom, Spry and HostGator has an excellent support team.

This is exactly the post I’ve been searching for. After suffering a temporary loss of my blog, and many hours of downtime, I’ve been looking for a better host. So I’ll check out these recommendations and shall be changing shortly.

    Thank you for posting this,

    Amanda

I’ve tried both Blue Host & Lunar Pages and dropped both. LP’s cusomer service is HORRIBLE!

Thanks for the comments guys and gals, i’ll be starting a seperate page just for WordPress Hosting soon, in the meantime if you have any other comment to add please feel free to do so.

I’m using Dreamhost as my hosting provider for my blog and I must say Dreamhost rocks!! They have an awesome customer support and the features you get for a hosting account are simply amazing. Hundreds of gigabytes, terabytes of bandwidth and it increases every week. Their technical support team is also great, if there’s any issue they swing into action really fast and also make sure they post the status of the issue on a seperate blog.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,
    Austin

My first WP blog was with Yahoo hosting, then I tried Netfirms but they were simply unreliable. I have been with Surpass Hosting for 14 months now, and I can’t complain with my English hosting. The only trouble I ran into with them was with language settings of blogs.

Since I am not a big fan of Fantastico, I tend to install and upgrade my WP by hand, rather than use the host’s quick install options. Surpass were always very helpful with whatever problems I ran into.

  13. Galwin Says:

1and1 hosts my site, and I have this major problem. My sites loads slooooow!

  14. Webhosting Guide Says:

I am using Lunarpages for over a year now. I haven’t had any major problem with them. It was in Lunarpages that I learned so much about website development. I always sent them emails whenever I have trouble.

  15. Niche Search Says:

I’m using site5.com to host my blog. Support on their end has been great. However, I was just notified last week that they were bought out. No plan to switch yet. Worth taking a look!

    Cheers

    Nick
