Janet Meiners of affiliateflash.com recently posted on her blog on how her WordPress.com powered blog dissappeared without a single warning.WordPress.com provides free WordPress powered blog hosting for bloggers who can’t afford hosting or prefer to keep it simple without all that hosting and tech problem to worry about.
An excerpt from Janet’s post:
I don’t know if WordPress is cracking down lately or I’m just having bad luck. I’ve had this wordpress hosted blog for over a year: www.newspapergrl.wordpress.com. It took on a life of it’s own so I left it. Some of the comments were excellent and I didn’t want to lose them. Now, everything is gone. I didn’t back it up. It had a higher pagerank than this version. All those broken links, heartbreaking.
Looking at the comments and all it looks like her blog was brought down because of affiliate links and adverts which was against WordPress.com’s T&C.
But just in case your blog is hosted on WordPress.com please ensure that you do regular backups just to be on the safe side.

Ok so she’s into affiliate marketing and can’t afford to host her own blog?

That was what i was thinking, maybe at the beginning of her journey she didn’t have the knowledge so probably WordPress.com was a good option at the time.

Moses is right. When I started I was still learning. It was the simplest way to go. I realized that I needed to host it myself. Then I didn’t get around to doing it for several months. My first love is writing and reporting on internet marketing and blogging for business. At first it was a bit of a learning curve on the technology side of blogging. That’s why I usually outsource that part and focus on content.
Thanks for the post!

WordPress should be more human than this. I can’t imagine that someone at the wordpress.com can do something like this. It’s ok to delete some splogs (spam blogs), but definitely not ok to delete one’s hard-work just like that, without warning. it’s a very bad karma. and there’s no escape from karma
